Currently, the professors associated with the Yunus Centre for Social Business and Wellbeing are operating an applied project. Community intervention work is carried out in nine urban areas with the most vulnerable population due to their poverty and social backwardness. The main intention is to strengthen the capacities of individuals in the medium and long term, preferably children and adolescents (between 6 and 19 years). For this, the following methodological stages are followed:

  • Diagnose the pre-intervention status individuals in the areas of economy, infrastructure, health, food security and education, to diagnose the degree of vulnerability per individual and the capacities with it counts and select the people who will be operated
  • Implement the intervention-action methodology during 16 months where assistance, training and follow-up that are provided by medical consultations, psychopedagogical, courses, workshops and support in social resource management processes (which, in turn, is a linkage mechanism with public, private and civil society organizations). These actions are recorded by diagnostic, observation and monitoring instruments.
  • Measure the impact of the intervention in order to analyze the development of the intervention-action strategy, once six months, 12 months and 16 months of intervention have elapsed.
  • Consolidate and publicize a Poverty Observatory for the monitoring and collection of information for academic work and future applied research.

In this way, the economic, infrastructure, health-feeding and education capacities have been worked on 312 children (6 and 14 years old), 259 adolescents (15 to 19 years old) and 347 adults with a large proportion of women (20 and 44 years old). All this with the support of more than 60 students from the Faculty of Economics and International Relations, as well as students from the health, education and social work areas.
